What is Clay Cafe?
The Clay Cafe is a ceramic painting studio. You go in and choose a ready-made pottery item to paint while enjoying something to eat and drink.
Both adults and children can participate in making their own unique designs on unfired bisque, using colourful painting tools to design functional homeware items or decorative pieces.
The staff members assist with the clay painting process – lending a hand to assist artists to bring their creations to life.
When you’re done, you leave your creation for the cafe to glaze and they will contact you to collect it after 14 days.
Clay Cafe Red Barn Experience
I booked online three weeks in advance as that’s the only weekend booking I could find. We arrived on the day of our appointment and our waitress explained how it works, demonstrated some painting techniques – like bubbles, dots, stencil tracing, and then we got to work.
They offer two sessions morning from 9 am to 1 pm and the evening session from 1 pm till 5 pm.
When we arrived, they didn’t mention that we have a time limit and we were basically rushed to finish and leave.
We ordered two lattes each and we were painting for 2.5 hours, and when we wanted to order food, but, they said our session is over and the afternoon session is fully booked, so we couldn’t even get a table to eat. We left to go eat elsewhere.
When you book, I recommend choosing the afternoon slot as the morning one is quite rushed, unless you book for 9 am and not 11 like us.
The Clay Cafe is perfect for painting beginners – no prior experience is needed. Overall, I had a good time.
