It’s that time of the year when people start thinking about how to spring-clean their life and do better.
I honestly do not believe in waiting for a new year to make life changes. You should adjust your goals and choices and then make some new ones often.
These past few weeks have been difficult for me – work-wise. I’ve probably cried 10 times in the past week alone and on my birthday, I stayed in bed and cried all day. This was a turning point for me that my life needed a detox – I needed a change in habits, practices, and clutter that don’t make me feel like my best self; it’s just as much about replenishing with whatever makes you happy, healthy, and whole.
How to Spring Clean Your Life
The purpose of spring cleaning your life is to gain awareness about how your daily habits and environment are affecting you so that you can make room for your best possible life.
Audit your Relationships
Life is too short to spend time with people that don’t build you up and make you happy. Reevaluate your social media accounts – unfollow people who don’t have positive energy.
Delete contacts of people you haven’t spoken to in the past 6-10 months. Reduce the time spent talking and investing in friendships or family members who don’t reciprocate. Don’t visit people, and don’t be the one who always plans activities and goes the extra mile for people.
Digital Detox
Start by deleting unused apps and unsubscribing from newsletters you never read. I removed all work apps and email accounts from my phone.
I deactivated Twitter in 2022 and never looked back. I plan on deactivating Facebook and Instagram and only having a TikTok account.
Mental Health
Let go of things that no longer serve you. Forgive the people you haven’t forgiven yet (including yourself). When people disrespect you, confront them immediately.
Schedule Happiness
Everyone needs something to look forward to, in the past year I started journaling to help the mind let go of whatever it’s holding on to. I’ve replaced any exercise that I don’t enjoy with workouts that I look forward to like pole dancing and hikes.
Book a vacation – knowing that you have a vacation coming up is the best way to get through life. We have four amazing group trips coming up in 2023.
Invest in yourself
Refresh your CV/Portfolio. Update your social media profiles and bio. Register for a class (online or in person). Research conferences that you are interested in for the upcoming year and attend them. Be committed to learning.
Keep Track of your wins
Create an online portfolio like a personal website or use your Facebook or LinkedIn to share your achievements, even small ones.
No matter how you choose to approach it, take action to record your work accomplishments as they happen. The more you track your achievements throughout the year, the easier it will be to share or provide them when you need to
This gives you the opportunity to give yourself a pat on the back now and then! You deserve it.
