Take me back to The Huddle, please!
Our getaway to Rosemary Hill for the long weekend was one for the books.
My friend invited me for a weekend staycation and she told me that the theme was rest and rejuvenate. She also added that we’d be staying in a container house – which I’ve never done before. Part of the fun of travel is trying new things, so I was excited.
But before I get ahead of myself, first let me tell you all about Rosemary Hill.
Rosemary Hill is an experience: cabins, wedding venue, good food and wine, and outdoor activities like horse riding, and segway tours in one place.

Where Is Rosemary Hill Situated
Rosemary Hill is situated at 257 R964, Pretoria.
You drive east on the N4 as if you’re traveling to Witbank (eMalahleni), pass the Solomon Mahlangu offramp (previously known as Hans Strydom), and take the next offramp (exit 18) towards Boschkop/Donkerhoek.
There is a toll gate (costs R14) before you turn right and continue onto the dirt road (R964) for just over 1km. The estate is on the right-hand side.
The Huddle at Rosemary Hill
We spent two nights at The Huddle – a two sleeper container house that launched in March 2022.
It’s a raw modular air-conditioned rectangular steel box. Of course, it’s not the size of a normal hotel room, but the room was definitely more spacious than what I expected it would be.
The Huddle has a queen-sized bed against the wall and enough space for a kitchen with a chair, desk, and a clothes hanger area. The container was well-utilised to make the most of what space they had.
The kitchenette came surprisingly well-equipped with a gas stove, pots and pans, utensils, a kettle, crockery, and cutlery. There were even added luxuries like a mini-fridge and coffee machine.
The Huddle also has an en suite bathroom – complete with a hot rain shower and toilet.
If you want to experience picturesque views from the elevated chill net, enjoy a fresh pot of tea from bed (with views for days), relax in the beautiful outdoor tub, or have a braai under the stars: The Huddle at Rosemary Hill is equipped to offer all of these experiences!
Guests staying on the farm get a complimentary breakfast between 7:30 – 9:30 am. The property has a Wellness Center where you’ll find a fully equipped gym.
The farm also has a shared swimming pool and self-catering bar available for use by all guests, situated at The Village.
- The Huddle Cost per night: R2650
- Check-in: 2 pm
- Check-out: 10 am
My stay was enjoyable. My favorite space to relax was the chill net for obvious reasons. Can you believe that view?
Things to do at Rosemary Hill
I’ve been to Rosemary Hill a few times as a day visitor. This was my first time sleeping there and I honestly cannot wait to be back.
The farm has many things to do and they are continuously adding more activities and units. Some fun things to do at Rosemary Hill farm include:
Hiking
Rosemary Hill Farm trails provide a great day out for mountain bikers, trail runners, and hikers. The trails meander through the working farm with bits of forest, dams, and even some old ruins to explore.
I’ve been hiking at Rosemary Hill a few times and I’ve shared how much I love and enjoyed it.
The Maze
Take a stroll through the Rosemary formal garden. Situated next to the wooden Barn, the Maze is 80m in diameter and is made up of over 2km of pathways and over 2000 trees, herbs, and shrubs!
The maze is a lovely garden but also a venue for open-air concerts, weddings, christenings, art exhibitions, and other events.
Picnic at Rosemary Hill
We enjoyed a picnic (R545 per box – Serves 2 people). The menu includes:
- Bottled Homemade Berry and Lemon Ice Tea
- Bottled Spring Water
- Variety of Local Cheese with Sea Salt Crackers
- Whole Seasonal Fruit
- Baked French Epi-Baguette
- Salted Butter
- Fig Preserve
- Chicken Liver Pate
- Farm Herb infused Olive Oil Roasted Cherry Tomatoes
- Selection of Charcuterie – Beef Pastrami and Prosciutto
- Garden Salad with Homemade Vinaigrette
- Homemade Potato Salad
- Dark Chocolate and Pecan Nut Brownie Truffles
- Raspberry Macarons
- Mini Milk Tarts
Greenhouse Cafe
We ate like queens and had a chance to dine at The Greenhouse Cafe. I tried their Beef Burger & Shoestring Fries on our first night. Then I had the Double Choc & Pecan Nut Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream, Caramel & Macaron for dessert.
I had the same breakfast on both days – Eggs Benedict and we had a lovely picnic for our second dinner.
For a short trip, our stay at The Huddle at Rosemary Hill ticked all my boxes: it was fun, zen, and a much-needed weekend of relaxation.
I’m looking forward to going back soon. Have you been to Rosemary Hill?
